The Company
In 2000, Anglo American began operating in Australia. Little more than a decade later, they have grown into the country's number four coal producer and its second largest metallurgical coal exporter. A keen focus on sustainable development has allowed them to make numerous contributions to their local communities while delivering handsome returns to their shareholders. They also belong to an industry fund that promotes the use of advanced technologies to reduce or eliminate greenhouse gas emissions associated with using coal. Anglo American has extensive coal mining interests in Queensland and New South Wales.

The Software
This web-based solution delivers a number of planning screens which allow schedulers, planners and managers to oversee the entire short-term planning and scheduling of the entire mining enterprise.

Process Plan—allows planners to arrange tasks and KPIs on a weekly scale. A list of predefined standard tasks enables rapid planning.

Along the left side, you can select from all of the existing, standard tasks. In the body of the plan's page, a drop-down list allows the planner to select from any of the existing work processes. The bulk of the page displays the plan's details by shift and by day for that specific process.

Shift Plan—allows planners and schedulers to modify every aspect of the shift plan, including KPIs, people and equipment resources, notes, tasks, attachments, and more.

24/48 Hour Schedule—provides planners and schedulers a holistic view of the KPIs, resources and tasks for every process in the schedule, for the next 48 hours.

The left side of the 48-hour schedule screen holds the list of processes which label each row. Each column in the bulk of the screen represents a specific shift for a specific day. This screen shows much of the same information contained in the Process Plan, but for all processes. Of course, here the focus is on the scheduling and approval of specific tasks.

Weekly Schedule—provides planners and schedulers a holistic view of the KPIs, resources and tasks for every process in the schedule at a weekly scale.

Most of this screen is very similar to that of the 48-hour schedule. Between the column listing processes and the bulk of the screen stands a KPI summary for the week. And, like the 48-hour schedule screen, each column in the bulk of the screen represents a specific shift for a specific day.

Anglo American needed a system to manage their people, equipment planning and scheduling. Years of ad hoc spreadsheet development had resulted in a Byzantine labyrinth of interconnecting files which had become sluggish and prone to crashing. The data shown did not always represent the latest information. The mass of spreadsheets could not easily handle multiple, simultaneous users.

A web-based system for planning, scheduling and monitoring production and auxiliary resources. Focus was on simplicity favourable to ease of use. This also included the ability to track actual production compared to planned targets.

What is your budget for this project? Why?

A quotation for a labour-intensive project, such as software development, requires several consultation sessions. Your budget range helps to establish the desired scope of the project. Combined with the problem definition and the solution specifications, we are able to determine the feasibility of the project within those constraints. Additionally, you will be able to assess the desirability of the possible solution at that budgetary level.
